When I got persuasive speech assignment in English class, first thing that came into my mind was "anxiety." I have never done speech in front of many people. I always had a stage fright and had a hard time in front of the crowd. I had extra pressure on me because this was the first actual project in English class and the students had to present their speech professionally. I realized that writing the speech part was much easier than presenting part. After writing and finalizing my speech, I had some time to practice my speech, but there were so many difficulties. My voice became hoarse after practicing and nonverbal part of the speech seemed almost impossible to achieve for me. On the actual speech presentation day, even though I was nervous before giving a speech, I decided to forget about everything once I get in front of the audience.
After giving out my speech, I realized there were many flaws in my presentation. As Andrew said, I became "mono-tone a few times through out the speech" and as Seung Woo said, the fluency of the speech was off because I muttered quite a few times during the speech. Others also commented on my tone and sentence fluency throughout the speech. However, my peers were able to find my strengths, as well. Some said I was very professional, persuasive, and good at eye contacts and gestures. Through this experience, I was able to learn how to do better for next presentation. I should try focusing more on my verbal-part of the speech instead of non-verbal part. To improve this, the only solution is to practice a lot before the actual presentation. This experience was very interesting because it not only made it possible for me to write a speech, but also present it in front of the class and persuade my classmates. I was able to get over my stage fright and have courage to speak out more in classes. This was a valuable project and I look forward to another great assignment in which I can improve my weaknesses.
